When is the best time to go to Saint Lucia?

There isn't really a best time to go to Saint Lucia, and travel is possible year-round. From a weather perspective, the dry season, between December and May, is the most pleasant. As its name suggests, this is when humidity is at its lowest and the sun is almost always shining. If you have the choice of your vacation dates, prefer the months of December, February, or March, which offer ideal weather for a stay on this paradise island.

However, there are many advantages to visiting Saint Lucia during the wet season:

  • The island is much less crowded, especially in June, September, and November, which correspond to the low season.
  • Accommodation prices outside of school holiday periods are lower.
  • Nature is more lush than at other times of the year, and it is the blooming season, particularly for the flamboyant trees.

It is still best to avoid the month of August, which is the wettest.

When to go to Saint Lucia if you have a small budget? Like most islands in the Caribbean, it is an expensive destination, especially in December and during the summer holidays in July and August. To get your plane ticket at more attractive rates, choose the months of March, September, or November. Also, consider booking your accommodation as early as possible and opt for one that has a kitchen. You will then save a lot on meals.

What to do in Saint Lucia? In addition to its dream beaches and lagoons filled with colorful fish, the island is volcanic and offers generous nature: biodiversity reserves, waterfalls, hot springs, and countless hiking opportunities. It is no wonder it is nicknamed the “Meeting of the Antilles”!

In summary, the best month to go to Saint Lucia is March: the weather is great and plane tickets are cheaper! For the same benefits, January is also a good option, with the advantage of lower crowds.

Climate and Weather in Saint Lucia

Located in the Caribbean Sea, 40 km south of Martinique, Saint Lucia is part of the Lesser Antilles. Due to its geographical position, its climate is equatorial, with abundant rainfall and a constant temperature throughout the year.

The weather in Saint Lucia is tempered by the trade winds, these intertropical winds that blow regularly from east to west. Thus, even at the hottest time of the rainy season, in August and September, the atmosphere remains breathable and there is never a feeling of suffocation.

The island experiences two rather distinct seasons: a dry season and a rainy season. However, showers are possible almost year-round and the temperature range, whether between day and night or from month to month, is very low.

Climate in Saint Lucia during the rainy season

From early June to late November, this is the wettest time of the year. This results in heavier rainfall, but the frequency is reasonable and they generally occur in the late afternoon.

Overall, the humidity level is higher than during the dry season, as are the temperatures, which range between 30 and 31°C (88°F) during the day and 28-29°C at night. August is the wettest month and September is the hottest, although the difference is very slight. Throughout the season, the water temperature of the Caribbean Sea is almost the same as the air: 29-30°C.

Thanks to the presence of trade winds, the rainy season remains very pleasant and the occasional showers will not ruin your trip!

The only downside is that it is also hurricane season, especially in August and October, but the phenomenon is rare and locals know how to prepare if a hurricane approaches the island.

Climate in Saint Lucia during the dry season

The weather in Saint Lucia improves during the dry season, which lasts from December to May, with minimal rainfall and warm temperatures.

During the day, it is between 28 and 29°C (85°F) in the air as well as in the water. Expect about 2°C (36°F) less at night. It is between January and March that the atmosphere is the driest, with almost no risk of showers.
